Another heroic aircraft was the Avro Lancaster, a heavy bomber capable of carrying bomb loads over long distances. Aviation designer Roy Chad- wick and his team designed the aircraft, which surpassed its predecessors in range, payload ca- pacity, and survivability. Its innovative features and advanced engineering boasted a sturdy con- struction and robust airframe capable of with- standing heavy combat damage, with a distinctive Rolls-Royce Merlin twin-engine providing ample power and reliability. Its spacious cockpit, ergonomic controls and innovative defensive systems such as powered turrets and armour plating enhanced the crew’s comfort and safety. Beyond war heroes and historical events, AVI-8 praises horological instruments like the sector dial watches from the early 20th century when innovation and experimentation were at their height. Initially, they were a practical solution for enhancing readability designed to divide the dial into distinct sections, each indicating different time units or other measurements. An hour sector divides the space between the concentric circles into 12 sections, while a minute sector has 60 sec- tions with solid markings. The design was later refined and embellished to incorporate artistic flourishes and decorative el- ements. During the 1920s and 1930s’ Art Deco movement, sector dial watches increased in pop- ularity thanks to their geometric shapes, bold col- ours, and streamlined aesthetics. Taking inspira- tion from the sleek lines and architectural motifs of this decorative era, watchmakers incorporated the design into their sector dial creations, making them visually striking and functional. To commemorate this classic timepiece, AVI-8 created a modern version in the 40 mm Flyboy Airmaster Sector Meca-Quartz in Jet Black, Vert Green, or Raven Black, with a unique sector dial inspired by the markings on a military aircraft. It features a Japanese Meca-Quartz with 24-hour movement, a black or green dial with white, grey or yellow applied index with Japan Super Lumi- nous, mineral lens, a pull-out crown and a black, green or nylon strap with buckle.
