One of the early 20th century’s most icon- ic artists, the Austrian symbolist painter’s innovative ap- proach to art and distinctive style left an indelible mark on the visual arts world. Born in 1862 in Baumgarten, near Vienna, Austria, Klimt was a prominent figure in the Sym- bolist movement and a founding member of the Vienna Secession. His work, celebrated for its bold use of colour, intricate patterns, and evocative symbolism, is characterised by its golden hues, including the leaf and minute detailing. Celebrated works such as The Kiss and Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I explore love, beauty, and the human condi- tion, combining realism with abstract elements and lav- ish ornamentation. They showcase the painter’s technical prowess and ability to convey deep emotion and complex psychological states through art. Montblanc’s New Masters of Art series celebrates artists whose work has profoundly impacted the world.
