bitetravel T he recently renovated Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort in St Lucia joined the Caribbean’s sus- tainable tourism elite after being independently audit- ed and awarded Green Globe Certification. The resort, tucked away on a lush hillside along the Caribbean Sea, was recognised for its commitment to conserving energy, reducing water, using organic amenities and minimising the footprint of its tourism enterprise across the island. It was further recognised as St Lucia’s Leading Family Resort at the 2023 World Travel Awards. The Mediterranean-style re- sort is on the northwestern coast, on 65 acres of beautiful hill- side. It features a crescent-shaped stretch of beach, six swim- ming pools, a selection of signature restaurants and bars such as Embers, Jammers, Papa Dons, Upper Deck and Dragonfly, a spa, fitness centre, water sports programmes and a well- equipped kids club. Their 220 guest rooms and villas range from stylish and con- temporary waterfront villas to beachfront suites steps from the water’s edge and charming hillside rooms, each designed to offer guests beautiful views across Labrelotte Bay and the Caribbean Sea. Windjammer Landing’s spectacular two to four-bedroom villas feature luxury amenities such as private plunge pools or terraces. Its larger villas offer full kitchens with the services of a dedicated chef available on request. Green Globe is a worldwide sustainability system based in California, USA, and is represented in over 83 countries. It was developed specifically for the travel and tourism indus- try, which has been running for 30 years. It assists different companies in improving their economic, social, and environ- mental sustainability while being rewarded and recognised for it. The Green Globe Standard provides organisations with a framework to thoroughly assess their ecological sustainability performance. Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort meets the latest Green Globe Standard 1.7 requirements, showcasing steps to improve its sustainability management. Thanks to this cer- tification, the resort is compliant with over 40 categories of criteria, and independent auditors have acknowledged their sustainability efforts in critical areas such as cultural heritage, social and community development, and environmental fac- tors. Exemplifying this active approach, the employees’ universal engagement in the 2023 World Environment Day focused on raising awareness about island conservation and local cul- tural celebrations. The activities ranged from a momentous tree-planting by the skilled landscaping team, an official hand- over of Plastic HDPE Bottles to the Ministry of Sustainable Development, and a clean-up campaign in the neighbouring Trouya areas. Guests were also invited to engage in captivating Creole classes while the resort’s Executive Chef introduced the principles of sustainable cooking. Windjammer Landing’s Environmental Package further con- nects resort guests to sustainability. In collaboration with the Perry Institute for Marine Conservation, this package was cre- ated for divers interested in marine conservation and learning how to become actively involved in coral restoration diving. The Perry Institute’s research and expertise have been invalua- ble in creating each course to ensure the educational elements are as engaging and interactive as possible. In addition to each package, a Lionfish experience, which includes the diving, hunting, cleaning and cooking of lionfish, an invasive species, is available. Green Globe’s independent certification recognises Windjam- mer Landing Villa Beach Resort’s significant efforts in mar- rying luxury to environmental responsibility and delivering vacation choices that coexist harmoniously with St Lucia’s precious nature and people. www.windjammer-landing.com Images courtesy of Grifco PR
