bitedesignerprofile The Master of Textures W hen he was a child, London-based fashion designer Bora Aksu, born in Izmir, a city on the Aegean coast in Turkey, created an imaginary world through drawing. He collected dolls and drew il- lustrations of female figures before he knew what fashion meant. His drawings were modelled on his mother’s and aunt’s clothes, style, hair and shoes. “My aim as a designer is to create my definition of beauty, and for me, the female form is the most important tool,” he revealed. Bora’s design aesthetic fuses a romantic sensibility with raw elegance through delicately textured fabrics and whimsical details underpinned by a distinctive twist on tailoring that portrays darker elements in tempering decorative shapes with translucent colour use. “There is an imperfection to my work which creates purity and beauty.” The self-con- fessed incurable romantic honours feminine power that stands against traditional restrictions and builds his col- lections around these heroines through storytelling.
