The EB112 was designed with a 60-value (five per cylinder) naturally aspirated 6.0-litre V12 engine, a six-speed manual transmission, and a sophisticated four-wheel drive system. It accelerated from 0-62 mph in 4.3 seconds with a top speed of 186 mph and produced 460 hp at 6,300 rpm, with a peak output torque of 590 Nm from 3,000 rpm. This capacity allowed potential performance far greater than the contem- porary high-performance saloon cars at the time. Its four-wheel drive system offered a proven evolution of advanced technology from the EB110.The torque split was 38% front and 62% rear for surefooted, high performance in all conditions. It was further enhanced by weight distri- bution, with Bugatti engineers positioning the powerful V12 far back between the axles in a front mid-mounted config- uration.This technical specification supported the dynamic ability and enhanced the crash safety performance. “The Bugatti EB112 was a true pioneer, an avant-gardist to how the saloon segment of the automotive world would radically change following its unveiling,” said Luigi Galli, Bugatti’s Specialist Heritage and Certification. “Here was a car, in 1993, that created a completely new segment for Berline Coupé cars: before it, no high-performance sedan took on the attributes the EB112 delivered, forming vision- ary design with outstanding power and luxury in abundance. It has come to represent an important milestone in this Bugatti’s deeply rich automotive heritage.” In 1998, Giugiaro helped rebirth the brand through the design and aesthetic of the two-door coupé EB118, the first concept car developed by Bugatti Automobiles SAS pre- sented at the Paris Motor Show that year and its four-door counterpart, EB218, the second concept car designed under the ownership of the Volkswagen Auto Group. Over 20 years later, Mate Rimac, founder of his namesake brand that started as a garage start-up in 2009, leapt forward to operate under Bugatti Rimac in 2021. Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Bespoke ‘Golden Era’ Every year, the Bugatti Sur Mesure design team receives one or two customer requests to make ambitious visions come true.This year, a special commission from a Bugatti collector with a deep appreciation for the marque’s history and the intricate engineering of the W16 engine challenged them. “Given the vision and exacting nature of this project and the fantastical ideation we wanted to realise,‘Golden Era’ is probably the most demanding tailored personalisation work my team and I have ever worked on,” said Achim Anscheidt, former Bugatti Design Director who headed the project. “A very important customer came to us. During our con- versations, he expressed he believed the Chiron Super Sport and itsW16 engine represented a landmark moment in the automobile world. He wanted to do something truly unique in celebration,” Anscheidt added.“We looked back through Bugatti history to find [several] of these landmark moments, including the times of Ettore Bugatti, Jean Bugatti and Roland Bugatti, which marked the first golden era for the brand.” The design team also looked at the modern-day incarnation of Bugatti from 1987, picking out the icons that define the Bugatti brand. “Our team proposed a concept featuring 45 sketches of the brand’s icons that would be hand-drawn directly onto the car itself, and the owner immediately fell bitecars Images courtesy of Bugatti
