bitecatwalk F ashionably diverse luxury clothing brand Simeogieme, launched in 2010 by creative director Osime Saibu, prides itself on exclusivity, originality and quality. The designer aims to exemplify harmony in every creation through a fusion of diversity by mixing various patterns, vi- brant colours, textures, themes and occasionally, a combina- tion of varying fabrics. Her inspiration draws from Africa’s love for rich colours and eclectic fashion and echoes her ethos of ‘Simplicity, Sensuality and Sophistication’. Inspired by her mother, who passed away two years ago, Saibu aimed to capture her kind, light, free essence and spirit in the free-flowing ‘Femina Madre’ collection. It presented a mix of abstract shapes, stripes, intricate prints and the brand’s unique signature logo on light and airy long dresses, tops and pants, floating effortlessly as they walked the runway. The designer intentionally used high-quality pleated fabric with elasticity to give them bounce to portray the incredible light her mother carried. Some prints were digitally designed, while others were paint- ings or acrylic paint drawn on a paint pad. Almost all of the de- signs had noticeable movement, including the frilly hem dress with orange strokes on a whitish background and green and red stripes that appear to dance to ‘DJ Lift Me Up’ by Syamsul as the model moved. The top and trousers were set with intri- cate prints, and the long pink, black, white and grey abstract pattern dress flowed as it walked. Saibu succeeded in bringing lightness to her collection with all eyes on the apparel’s movement and decorative prints. Her unique fabric use with the brand signature stood out, and the ruched effect and frills added dimension to the collection. I no- ticed a few models removed the slim belt around the dresses, perhaps to show the apparel’s full potential.
