bitecatwalk TRAN HUNG FASHION WEEK LONDON Spring/Summer 2023 I think I’m in love, and his name is Tran Hung! Where does one try to begin to describe these new butterfly feelings for a designer and his collection of perfect evening wear? With incredible tailoring, attention to detail, and stunning silhouettes and styling? Because this nine-sea- son London Fashion Week veteran from Vietnam has been striving to be 100% sustainable, he’s currently using 90% of all needed raw materials that are ethically sourced and environmentally friendly. I mean, I’m swooning! Known in Vietnam for his high-end, über luxurious pieces, Hung is a sought-after designer in a country where sustainable manufacturing is still just beginning. With these brilliant collections coming forth, it’s not a stretch to think he will be hailed as the forerunner in this necessary movement. That being said, let’s now talk about a few of Hung’s state- ment-making pieces this season! Inspired by spring and summer florals - roses, chrysanthemums and poppies, these pretty blooms were featured in various designs through- out the colourful collection. When the first two sheer se- quinned looks walked down the marble steps at the Wal- dorf Hotel, I thought, “Ooo, sparkly! And there they are! My beloved wide-legged pants presented in a deep sapphire navy - so happy!”The first examples of his menswear launch sauntered with sheer button-down shirts, some featuring a fun embroidered flower design element or a flawlessly cut blazer and pressed suit pants. From here, more sheer fabrics showed, layering of pale tulle with shimmering crystal detailing and again, the theme of florally inspired pieces glided by. A few mini-dresses also walked with fluttering feathers, sequins and crystal piec- es. Two were interesting: one of solid white uniquely con- structed to appear like rounded petals just ever so slightly touching to form a gorgeous cutout appearance. Another stunner was the structured ‘flame dress’, which looked like hot flames flickering up the svelte model’s body. This short, vibrant red number was a nice break from the coquettish emotion of the collection by interjecting a bit of daring seduction. It would be an excellent movie premiere carpet look! The show ended with more picture-perfect gowns rang- ing from sheer column dresses with mile-high thigh slits covered with even more insanely beautiful glitter and glam beading to a strapless bell-skirted tea-length dress with a lovely landscape scene print. The finale fairytale-like full- length dress covered in gauzy soft lilac feathers was a fan- tastic way to conclude the show. Hung’s talent for creatively layering organza, tulles, delicate silks, and intricate and im- maculate attention to the handsewn appliques was beyond anything I’ve seen presented in a long, long time. I cannot wait to see what my beloved has planned for next season! www.tranhung.com
