The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2023 - Issue 33

he world has changed! I’m not talking about post- pandemic. I’m referring to the ushering of a new era, a new seat of authority, an unprecedented event and a change of British head of state. King Charles III’s coronation in May not only provided the nation with an extra Bank Holiday but a moment many probably didn’t think they would witness in their lifetime. Of course, it cannot be compared to Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953, but it was a celebratory occasion for the crowned monarch. Argentine steak restaurant Gaucho opened their first restaurant in 10 years in Covent Garden, where we experienced deliciously seasoned steak and other dishes in a low-lit ambience on the lower ground. Head chefs Aaron Craig and Dan DaCosta reveal their cooking techniques and wisdom at The Refectory Kitchen & Terrace in York, North Yorkshire and The Fox Dining Rooms at Foxhills in Chertsey, Surrey. We indulge in crepes, pancakes and ice cream at the colourful Badiani in Angel, which has an intriguing story. We dive into movies with the Palm Springs International Film Festival returning to Los Angeles after a two- year hiatus due to the pandemic. In addition to awarding actors and film productions, PSIFF introduced free age-appropriate screenings for high school students during the weekend. Multi-genre director and actor Spike Lee received a BFI Fellowship at BFI Southwark, honouring his over three decades of precedented works. As usual, we provide our selection of films on or coming to the big screen. R&B singer Ashanti returned with a new single several years after releasing her last album. The artist started as a young dancer until her mother discovered she could sing. We follow the singer’s journey from short-lived signings at Jive and Epic Records to her long-standing relationship with rap label Murder Inc from which she garnered success. Rap artist Travis Scott reveals his aspirations, clothing style and collaborations with various fashion and commercial brands. Enjoy our SS23 issue 33, packed with the usual fashion, beauty, hair, lifestyle, theatre, music, films and other exciting features. We’ll meet again later this year. editor’s letter Front Cover Credits: Photography: Tony Wellington Model: Anastasia @ First Model Management Designer: Ana Ljubinkovic Make-Up Artist: Abigail Alexander Hair Stylist: Elisabeth Andrews All rights reserved.
