bitefashion An outerwear fan, the designer says a fantastic coat or jack- et would make the outfit. “I felt that I wanted to create a fashion brand that began with outerwear, that’s sustainable, and made in London.” He says he feels that many pieces don’t need and shouldn’t be designed for one type of per- son and thus created with a more inclusive scope, but un- derstands “some pieces do look great and work if they are designed particularly for a woman or a man in mind.” In May 2021, Matthew founded his brand, Hegarty, offer- ing ready-to-wear clothing that men and women would want to wear every day. The distinctive designs and en- during style with uncompromising quality, diversity and inclusivity are made sustainably in London with English fabrics. “I wanted to start a brand that was named after my surname - an inclusive, London-made brand - that focused on womenswear, menswear and unisex,” he told Gramersi. His first piece was the Pea Coat in navy or black, a take on the classic, beautifully cut in 100% English melton wool. It’s updated with contemporary styling to give it a more streamlined look with added touches, such as the Hegarty signature back vent. It features a double-breasted front and smart open lapel that can be folded over to cover the chest. The buttons are made from by-product cow horns, with vent pockets, interior button-through welt pockets and a back button-through vent. The range expanded into more outerwear, such as the Sin- gle Breasted Cashmere Overcoat in navy blue, another clas- sic piece given a contemporary flair to make it streamlined in the cut with a signature back vent detail for comfort and durability. This fully lined timeless piece made from 95% English wool and 5% cashmere will go with anything. Like the Pea Coat, it has cow horn buttons, a vent pocket and interior button-through welt pockets. Varsity Bomber Jacket is made in a premium dark navy cashmere and wool blend with 100% natural by-product leather and wool elasticated ribbed cuffs, collar and waist. It features a snap closure with the Hegarty logo engraved twice on each snap and chest jetted pockets. Also created from the same leather, the Biker Jacket has the exact fea- tures but with a zip closure. Thanks to the Hegarty treat- ment, these timeless jackets are constructed to last and are the perfect accompaniment to any outfit. Indigo and Ecru Denim Jackets are made from premium selvedge denim produced in the north of England, using vintage machines to produce small batches of the fabric. They’re designed with a unique Raglan sleeve, a pointed collar, button closure, chest flat pockets, adjustable button tabs at the back waist and the signature Hegarty back vent. The brass buttons are embossed twice with the brand’s logo. The denim jackets can also accompany any outfit or layered underneath outerwear.
