bitefilms The Equalizer I n the initial film, The Equalizer, Robert McCall took out the Russian syndicate trafficking prostitutes in Boston, one of whom he befriended and was brutally beaten up. The sequel Equalizer 2 saw his friend and former Defence Intelligence Agency colleague Susan Plummer murdered in her hotel room. After investigating, McCall discovered his former partner, Dave York, had become a mercenary after feeling used and discarded by the government and mur- dered Plummer to keep his identity secret. The Equalizer 3 sees Robert McCall’s government assassin days over and retires to Southern Italy, where he makes new friends. However, when he discovers his ‘adopted fam- ily’ are controlled by local crime bosses, he enters protector mode and takes on the mafia. In this final chapter, Denzel Washington reprises his role as the fearless and badass vigilante who finds solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed and doesn’t blink or finch before taking the bad- dies out. Antoine Fuqua directs this third instalment, making it the fifth time he has worked with Washington. He directed Training Day in 2001, The Equalizer in 2014, The Magnificent Seven in 2016 and The Equalizer 2 in 2018. The seasoned actor also reunited onscreen with Dakota Fanning, who plays Au- teur for the first time since the 2004 Man on Fire.
