bitedesignerprofile C elebrities, cult figures and fashioni- stas flock to iconic Scottish fashion designer Pam Hogg's show at Lon- don Fashion Week every season. The romantic, renegade, and rockstar mesmerise with her timeless, flamboyant, fearless, visionary, eccentric and outlandish designs in PVC, stretch jersey with leather, gold lurex, sheer mesh and metallic structures. Terry Wogan called her "a de- signer of cult status - one of Britain's most origi- nal, innovative, creative designers.” From a young age, the Paisley-born creative was a game changer. Pam’s father inspired her to use her imagination, so at age six, she altered her clothes, and by 15, she had self-tailored trousers. Pam studied Fine Art and Printed Textiles at the Glasgow School of Art and won the Newbury Medal of Distinction, the Frank Warner Memo- rial Medal, the Leverhulme Scholarship and the Royal Society of Arts Bursary leading her to study for an MA degree at the Royal College of Art in London. After she launched her first fashion collection in 1981, she dressed music and TV icons Ian Ast- bury, Paula Yates, Marie Helvin, Siouxsie Sioux and Debbie Harry. She won over the notorious Steve Strange at his infamous Blitz Club, the leg- endary New Romantic haunt, danced with David Bowie, turned heads with the outfits she created and encouraged clubgoers to don her mini collec- tions sold at Harrods and Harvey Nichols while her Hyper Hyper boutique secured her catwalk show in 1985.
