bitemusic M usic is constantly evolving! In addition to the traditional styles, there are varied sub-genres in alter- native, classical, dance, electronic, hip-hop, jazz, metal, pop, etc. Palindrones, a multi-instrumental electronic music duo from southeast London, creates immersive musical landscapes, pounding electronic beats and blistering synth drones. Its lush ambience, hyp- notic organic textures, subtle pop melodies and haunting, esoteric lyrics draw the listener into a dreamlike reverie. Karen and Jamie were initially in separate punk bands and occasionally bumped into each other, sharing their favourite music. Palin- drones was Jamie’s on-again/off-again bedroom project since 2015 which he focused on more during the lockdown. He was working on the song 'Sectio Aurea’ from the EP The Lighthouse and needed Karen's vocals. “As Palindrones was born in the London DIY punk/rock scene, our approach was to essentially play dance music for rock fans and live shows with the energy of a punk gig but with the ambience and pulse of a techno club.” In spring 2020, the duo wrote songs together remotely. “Our first show as Palindrones was in the winter of 2021. We had a lot of friends from the music scene who liked what we were pro- ducing. We’re so grateful to UXB Promotions, Leg Puppy, Flesh Tetris and the New Posh Club for giving us some of our first shows.” Post-covid, Sam Wilde of UXB Promotions booked them a gig at The Victoria in Dalston, east London, where they supported alternative rock band She Made Me Do It. “We were both excited but nervous,” Karen re- called. “Our sound was so different to anything either of us had performed before, and it was a naively complicated arrangement: synths, bass guitar, theremin, live percussion, laptops and an onstage mixer.” Since then, the duo has streamlined their set-up to better complement the theatrics of their performance without compromising their vision of playing as much of the music as organically as possible. The strength, creativity and emotiveness of Nord ic vocalists such as I onna l ee, Sóley and Agnes Obel move Karen. “For their dreamlike, ethereal sound, I adore Cocteau Twins. As
