The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2023 - Issue 33

bitefashion Danish designers are known for their sleek lines and sophis- tication, yet they do not take themselves too seriously. “May- be it’s the jante-lov, which means you’re not better than other people,” Nielsen explained. “So we create cool things but don’t make a big fuss about it.” For its lookbooks, Won Hundred street-cast and then interview their subjects. For example, their Spring 2012 lookbook was focused on Copenhagen and its favourite places. “We want to give you a small part of us every time we do something new.” Through its long-standing relations with manufacturers, the brand endeavours to ensure all products comply with quality testing and fabrics and the garments are sourced responsibly. Its denim production is produced with trusted partners in Ita- ly, using organic cotton and washed by some of the best laun- dries in the industry. The latest initiative, the ‘Green Cross’ la- bel, indicates the garment is made from organic material. The brand will pursue and represent further sustainable initiatives over time. The denim factory owner, Paulo Fuglini, emphasised ‘Made in Italy’ is not a simple term. “‘Made in Italy’ implies the entire way in which our products are produced. It is an approach we use throughout the whole manufacturing process. It comes from your soul, experiences, and background and is a part of your life. ‘Made in Italy’ is when you make products with love.” With this in mind, Won Hundred implements similar values with love and respect for the environment and garment workers. The brand also presents a deadstock collection of five unisex styles, including relaxed shirts, denim-inspired jackets and trousers. Instead of the standard seasonal collections deter- mined by the fashion industry, this type is produced with long-term partners during the factories ‘low season’ to main- tain a stable workflow. The fabrics are sourced in Portugal and constructed in Bulgaria using materials from the past eight Won Hundred collections. With each style made from leftover materials, the process gives the items a contrasting and different look. In addition, deadstock fabrics offer Won Hundred’s design team the op- portunity to mix different colours and patterns in a new, de- constructed way. These are launched exclusively through the website and provided in solely limited quantities. Won Hundred also collaborated with legendary boot manu- facturer Sendra to design and produce two signature silhou- ettes, a pair of womenswear boots and a unisex boot for their FW22 collection. The footwear made from 100% leather in black and brown offers “a versatile feel and look for everyone” and is described by the brand as “rooted in our denim uni- verse and combined with our fashion aesthetic, making these boots a perfect fit for every occasion.” For its SS23 collection, Won Hundred focused on craftsman- ship and high-quality garments embodying a new dynamic in its universe. The elevated, versatile and upscaled ready-to- wear fashion pieces pay attention to a higher design grade, luxury fabrics and wearability. Nielsen acknowledges their consumers have aged and their lives have changed, in addition to the world and industry surrounding them, in the nearly two decades since they started. He also said he has changed and is much clearer in his vision. “I feel the timing for Won Hundred, heading into this new di- rection, is so organic and right,“ he revealed. “We want to give our loyal consumers something new, but also take the neces- sary steps in developing our vision and product to accommo- date and inspire the next generation of users and consumers.” The men’s staples include Gonzo, a loosed-fitted shirt with a Hawaiian collar, dropped shoulders and horn-look buttons made from soft and drapey sustainable Tencel. Likewise, Si- mon is a relaxed trousers cut from Italian absorbent cotton with a satin weave that gives the fabric shine. It has an elastic band at the back and a classic fly at the front. Style these with the Firenze M Jacket inspired by the classic bomber jacket. Made of sustainable and responsible lamb leather from New Zealand, it has a high rib collar and chunky two-way YKK zipper. The supplier is certified by Realgrade, and their tanneries are LWG (Leather Working Group) ap- proved. The roomy nylon Wesley overshirt has side and chest pockets, metal press button details and air vents under the arms. Another shirt is the classic fitted Kenny made from a heavy recycled cotton blend with a crinkled surface and shirt sleeves. Ike is a pair of regular fitted shorts cut from Tencel fabric fea- turing a logo drawstring, elastic waistband and side pockets. The unisex, square-toed, mid-high, Barcelona western-in- spired boot is made from 100% leather. With a chunky Good- year sole system, these boots are comfortable for everyday wear and easily suitable for styling options. For the ladies, Luella sports a two-tone cropped knit crafted from an organic cotton blend with long sleeves, thumb holes and detailed rib in the neck and bottom hem. Won Hundred suggests pairing this top with their Elodie skirt for a complete look. In the same style, the Dalary knit dress has a polo collar and button closure and features high slits. The sexy Eloise crop top in blue denim is cut from organic cotton, features a hood and is closed with a hook and bars in three sizes. Rose Blue is a deconstructed, cropped denim jacket with shoulder pads, staggered details and massive embroidery at the back. Fitted and roomy, the Arya overshirt in crisp Italian cotton is ultra-light and features a paisley print. It’s detailed with chest pockets, a tap label and sleeves without cuffs and can be paired with Phoebe pants in the same fabric for an overall look. Relax in the blue-striped Zara, a men’s inspired oversized shirt cut from organic cotton and designed with a tap label in the side seam. Why not keep it loose with the flowery Aurelia? This over- sized dress is cut from a drapey sustainable EcoVero™ viscose and has a v-neck and adjustable drawstring in the waist and sleeves. You can dress this up with high boots or down with flats. This style is also available in the shirt and mini dress. Get the Remington look in green or black with the boxy-fitted vest cut from spongy Italian fabric. The organic cotton has a satin weave, making it slightly shiny. Won Hundred apparel and accessories are available online on their website. https://wonhundred.com
