CONCEPTUAL DESIGNER bitefashion L ondon-based Danish designer Jens Laug- esen began his career in 1987 in Paris after receiving an opportunity to assist fashion photographer Gunnar Larsen as a stylist for Gunnar International magazine. Not long after the would-be designer embarked on the next chap- ter of his life, he studied haute couture design at the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture. All these experiences fed the young creative’s mind developing his unique sense of designing. He also studied at Central Saint Martins in London, where he explored his creative talents and developed an analytically intuitive approach to expressing his worldviews through design. After various research, Jens developed a concept named hybrid reconstruction, an analytically intui- tive system mixed with his design philosophy. As a couturier, his creative endeavours were influenced by 9/11, the fall of the infamous Twin Towers in the USA. Based on the notion that every action has an equal and opposite reaction, Jens was interested in how such life-threatening and history-changing events affect the fashion world. The designer start- ed emerging into research and predictions, raising the question, “What would be in fashion after de- construction?” Out of these quotations, the series of hybrid designs manifested, evolving from unisex urban collections to eye-catching ‘deconstructions’ of the ‘90s.
