bitecatwalk JACK IRVING F or AW22, Jack Irving’s collection was presented by ON/OFF. The initial concept of the show was based on Jack’s inspira- tion sought from sea life and its unknown deep abyss. Hav- ing worked with Lady Gaga and Paris Hilton, who have worn many of his pieces, Jack wanted to engulf the world and make a big spectacle incorporating his love for technology and live performance. The opening look saw the model dressed in layered strands that suddenly spiked up from the back to the front, making her look like a starfish. It was an intriguing display that got the audience cheering. As it returned to its initial stance, the model stepped out of it to reveal a sexy black bodysuit with purple leggings and gloves. It was futur- istically orientated. Irving awarded us another science fiction look, a high-neck cloak that almost hid the model’s face. She removed it to reveal an electrifying psychedelic bodysuit with matching thigh-high boots. The designer continued his sea life theme with sleek apparel, one of which had octopus-like tentacles on a catsuit with a life of its own. One of the standout pieces was a black catsuit with a breastplate, multicoloured illuminated ruched sleeves and spiky tentacles that seemed to ascend from the arms and a train. As the model arched her arms, the spikes stood up more. From the back, you can see that the train was, in fact, a gorgeous radiant psychedelic gown that glowed as it walked. As more spiky numbers walked the catwalk, I was fascinated by the intriguing designs. Imagine walking through London in one of these. People will give you a wide berth while admiring your outfit from afar. The space-like bodysuit would make them think you have just landed off a spaceship, declaring, “We come fashionably in peace!” A plung- ing v-neck bodysuit with a shoulder bar extending to the back and attached to a headpiece appeared heavy for the model who wore it. Given Irving’s fascination with magical showbiz and the circus world, it’s no surprise that this collection was a showstopper. With their rotating colour change and moving tentacles, the outfits would look great in a future sci-fi adventure film or a comedy drama set. The movement expression was valuable as he studied performance de- sign. For the final look, the model graced the runway with an elegant robotic Ursula, whom many will know is the goddess of the under- world. www.jackirving.co.uk
