After Boris Johnson was ousted as prime minister in July, Liz Truss was appointed as his successor and the third serving female commander-in-chief in September. However, she became the shortest-serving prime minister, resigning after seven weeks, following strong criticisms against her leadership and economics policies, thus beating George Canning’s record of fewer than four months who died in office. Rishi Sunak set a momentum milestone by becoming the first Asian prime minister in October 2022. While the country tries to adapt to life changes, we inject culinary joy into meaty cuisine at the Heliot Steak House in Leicester Square. The mysterious Yopo restaurant at the dark-captivating Mandrake Hotel in Fitzrovia and the funky and stylish riverside Coco Grill & Lounge in Shad Thames; a few minutes’ walk from Tower Bridge. We also discover the influence behind Monboddo restaurant in Edinburgh, Scottish Judge Lord Monboddo and learn about Head Chef OJ Coleske’s take on sustainable organic food and dining experiences. The Black British Theatre Awards held their 4th annual award ceremony at the Royal National Theatre in Waterloo, celebrating the advancement of Black performers, directors, choreographers and teachers in the theatre industry. We also attended Miss Caribbean & Commonwealth event in north London, portraying beautiful women from the Caribbean, Africa and other countries such as Bangladesh, Cyprus, England and Portugal. It progressed this year under new management after a decade’s hiatus due to founder Clayton Goodwin’s ill health and the pandemic. Christina Aguilera returned after a four-year hiatus to release her second Spanish-language album, over two decades since her first, named after her surname. It contains the sexy and sultry ‘Suéltame’ (Let Me Go) that involves delicious red velvet cake and a snake. We also feature masked rapper M Huncho, who returned from a two-year hiatus with a new curated, designed mask and sound. He invites fans and those interested in his music to join him on his euphoric journey on his new album. As usual, we bring you our catwalk reports of selected established and emerging designers’ collections at London and Milan fashion weeks for AW22, with a surprise peek at Paco Rabanne’s delectable presentation at Paris Fashion Week. Carluccio’s and Venchi reveal their Christmas gifts centred on Italian family celebration, sharing and fairytales, while Mariage Fréres teach us about their arsenal of worldwide teas. Indulge in the historical and modern monuments of Baku and Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan; the latter city has quite a story. With 2022 drawing to an end soon, we hope next year will bring a better narrative for most people than it has this year. We look forward to seeing you in the next Spring-Summer 2023 issue.
