bitebags T hey say the grey-green tone of the colour sage, closely resembling the dried herb leaves, is best matched with brown when choosing colour coordination. Perhaps this is why husband-and-wife team Mehmet and Anita Pekdemir decided to name their quintessentially British luxury leather goods brand SageBrown, founded in the early noughties. Its longevity is thanks to Mehmet’s leather retail and manufactur- ing knowledge and experience and Anita’s design and marketing background. “We want to create beautifully crafted products that are handmade to last,” the brand stated. “We believe in combining quality and afforda- bility in our products and see no reason to pay exorbitant prices when our products do more for less. You won’t find a better price-to-quality ratio.” SageBrown designs, source the leathers and components and manufacture its products at its workshop in Turkey, where most skilled artisans descend from families who have passed down their skills through the generations. Quality leather is an essential component: “every cut of leather and every single stitch is carefully constructed by hand by our experienced master craftsman.” Nappa, nubuck, suede and brushed hides are the more expensive leather fabrics praised for their breathability and conform to the wearer’s shape. They provide warmth in the colder weather and coolness in the hotter temperatures. The full-grain nappa has a soft feel, while the sanded or milled nubuck is appreciated for its lux- urious, smooth, velvety finish.
