Alone on an island, with only an old two-way Dansette 222 as a communication tool, the woman begins to seek answers by listening to ambient sea sounds and the wind as she takes long walks on the island. We are determining whether this was a hallucination or people from the past who lived in the exact location. Past, present and future are disturbingly intertwined, exist- ing and co-existing simultaneously through the medium of Enys Men . We witness a woman’s life in solitude that spirals inwardly into memories, dreams and fears. Like Alice in Wonderland, we see her inner life spiring down the rabbit hole. The director invites people to explore this scenario dur- ing his Cinematic DNA of Enys Men season running at BFI Southbank and on BFI Player in January 2023. With features, documentaries, TV programmes and short films, the season will give context to his latest film, allowing the audience to enjoy some rich and rarely-seen content.
