bitefilmreview W ritten and directed by Lola Atkins, Clock (original title Purple Beatz ) is a new female-led independent British film. It premiered this summer at the opening gala of the I WILL TELL International Film Festival at London's British Film Institute (BFI Southbank). Jason Matthewson produced the film for EWAV Works in association with The Old Film Farm. It will be released in the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Clock is also available on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Google and Microsoft from 25 October 2022. Watching the screening, I genuinely appreciate the director wrote the story from a female perspective, allowing us to explore the ‘90s youth culture, typically represented by male protagonists. Clock is an excellent old classic follow-your-dream romantic dra- ma set in London’s ‘90s underground drum and bass music scene. The film stars jazz singer Sarah Jane (played by Izzy Jones), who moves from a slow-paced Bournemouth to London to pursue her career in music. Not long in town, she starts working at a record store, where she falls for the handsome Airbeats (Steven Michael-O’Hara), with whom she develops a romantic relationship. Unfortunately, she soon finds herself in a relationship triangle with sinister music producer Russell Douglas (Aron Von Andri- an), who she meets at an open mic gig set up by her flatmate Dedee (Erika Alexander). Russell suggests Sarah Jane, or as her friends call her SJ, use her voice to sing on top of the drum and bass instrumentals and become an MC, gigging around London’s under- ground clubs.
