Having to fight to keep her last name and being told to change it many times, she said, “Something I embody and understand is this is a name that has been tried to be taken away from me on numerous occasions coming up in this business,” she explained. “It’s not the easiest name for everyone to pronounce; it’s been butchered a lot.” Her desire to sing in Spanish again has never left her. “I never stop singing in Spanish. Whenever the opportu- nities came about where I was passionate about a pro- ject, I’d go for it,” she revealed. “I always say when you grow up with something; it’s part of your household. My mom was fluent in Spanish; that’s how she met and connected with my dad, who’s from Ecuador. I heard the language so much. I always say it never leaves you when it's in you.” The album consists of three chapters - La Fuerza (The Force), La Tormenta (The Storm), and La Luz (The Light) . It speaks of empowerment, vulnerability and healing with heavy dance-pop, Latin pop and urban in- fluences and features elements of cumbia, tango, trop- ical music, huarache and reggaeton. It reached the top twenty on the US Latin Pop Album charts and received seven nominations, including Album of the Year. It also won Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 23rd Annual Latin Grammy Awards.
