The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2022 - Issue 31

bitejewellery fluid statement earrings in 9-carat yellow gold. In a similar form, Cuff with Diamonds and Gold, and Cuff in Gold are created in 9-carat yellow gold with the addition of G SI1 diamonds on the former piece. Under Orgaya, you will find beautiful signet and engagement rings, pendants, earrings, and bracelets. One of the most outstanding pieces is the 3 Stone Gold Ring, a classic three-stone ring with a central buff top stone and contrasting shoulder cabochon stones. Equally striking is the Large Gold Pendant with a textured, semi-precious citrine gemstone pendant. How about the Statement Makers in Gold; these large triangular earrings have Omega Safety backs for support? Whilst there aren’t other established jewellery designers that inspire her, Su- sannah enjoys the enthusiasm of characters such as Marla Aaron and admires her individuality. She loves fashion and describes it as an obvious extension and expression of self. “I change the way I look daily to match my current mood and inspirations.” In defining London’s fashion, she admitted that there aren’t words to describe its fashion scene. “The scale spans from innovative and genius to solemn and boring.” Susannah finds designing exciting. “It’s the conception of a new piece [and] the start of a new journey,” she explained. She also mentioned that quality jewellery should have a good weight, essential materials and a lifelong guar- antee. “Cost per wear, a quality piece of jewellery intended for everyday wear should come up at the £10 mark.” The time to construct a piece depends on the complexity of the item. “Some pieces have taken me a year, others four weeks. There isn’t an accurate time stamp when you’re making a client’s dream come true.” The jewellery designer counts her brand being stocked internationally and awarded prestigious industry accolades as accomplishments. But above all, she feels most accomplished when she has made a client happy. “It sounds a bit cliché, but creating unique pieces that help clients celebrate their individ- uality is what makes me feel most fulfilled.” She likes to work with teal/greens and pinks but admits sunset colours are her absolute favourites. There is nothing like 18-carat gold and fine coloured gemstones in Susannah's world, which she says cannot be beaten. "They are enticing, ancient materials, and you can feel quality oozing from them." To aspiring jewellery designers, Susannah would advise them to “be resilient and practice your skills. Also, be rebellious. Go against the grain, and don’t let others limit you.” Susannah King London jewellery is available online and at La Maison Cou- ture and Farfetch. https://www.susannahkinglondon.com Images courtesy of We Are PR
