The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2022 - Issue 31
bitewatches The brand created its first timepieces to be worn by soldiers on their wrists, contributing to the company’s unstoppable innovation. Waterbury Traditional GMT 39 mm timepieces with a leather strap or stainless steel bracelet have two time zones, a date window, and stain- less steel watch case and a top ring. Navi timepieces consist of 38 mm Land, World Time, Harbour, Depth and Ocean, and 41 mm XL and XL Automatic in various leather, fabric, stainless steel bracelets or mesh straps. The classic, elegantly designed Easy Reader watches have been a favourite since 1977 thanks to its easy- to-read dial, date window and Indiglo® light-up watch dial with a silver-tone stainless steel bracelet or natural leather strap. The standard model is available in 30 mm, 32 mm, 35 mm, 38 mm or 40 mm, while the Colour Pop comes in 30 mm or 38 mm, Modern Easy Reader in 32 mm, Reader Day-Date in 35 mm, Bold in 38 mm or 43 mm and Gen1 in 40 mm. M79 Automatic 40 mm in Black/Black, Black/Red, Black/ Blue or Black/Brown is inspired by the 1970s Q Timex that was elevated with a 21-jewel mechanical move- ment. This fresh interpretation with a woven stainless steel mesh bracelet consists of a stainless steel case and band, an automatic movement, a day and date window and a 40-hour power reserve. It also features a black uni- directional bezel, luminous dial markings, acrylic crystal and an exhibition caseback. This year, Timex has gone back in time to the ‘70s to bring us a collaboration celebrating the popular arcade game Space Invaders and a revamp of its Q Timex Reissue timepieces. In 1978, Tomohiro Nishikado developed Space Invaders, the first fixed shooter game manufactured and sold by Taito in Japan that dominated the arcades and video game consoles worldwide. The goal was to defeat waves of descending aliens with a horizontally moving laser to earn as many points as possible. The Timex x Space Invaders T80 chronograph watch captures the spirit of this iconic video game with pixelated alien invaders, laser shooters and the familiar electronic soundtrack. Celebrating the meeting of two icons - Timex and Space Invaders, it also features an alarm, timer, and Indiglo® backlight with a stainless steel bracelet, along- side a month, day and date display, digital movement, polished square case and acrylic crystal lens. The 1972 Q Timex Reissue quartz watch delivers bold- ness from every angle and boasts a gold-tone tonneau case profile with an all-around polished finishing. It has dimensional floating hour markers that hover above the striking red dial and a matching polished handset, with a period-perfect domed acrylic crystal on top and a coin- slot battery hatch underneath. Other features include a stainless steel case, quartz movement, date feature, domed acrylic crystal, battery hatch on the caseback and natural leather strap. In addition, Timex collaborated with Coca-Cola to cele- brate the time when the simple act of sharing a Coke® became a rallying cry for tolerance and hope half a century ago. “Today, we’re proud to honour the enduring spirit of Coca-Cola’s legendary ‘Hilltop’ commercial with three commemorative styles that inspired us to make time for what matters - peace, love, and harmony.” They also featured Charles Schultz’s iconic Snoopy in their commemorative ‘Take Care with Peanuts’ collaboration. Timex timepieces are available online and at participat- ing retailers. www.timex.co.uk Images courtesy of Grove Communications
