The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2022 - Issue 31

his past June, seeing the world united in the monumental milestone celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee was glorious. After surpassing her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria’s tenure of 63 years in 2015, Her Majesty set another record of 70 years on the throne. However, French King Louis XIV, who became king at the age of four compared to the Queen’s 27 after her father, George VI passed, currently holds the longest-serving record of more than 72 years. In this issue, we are enthralled by the enchanting story of Colonel Saab, the Indian fine dining establishment at the former Holborn Town Hall. The restaurant takes its name from Manbeer Choudhary’s army nickname, whose son Roop celebrates his parents’ legacy. We dined at Penny Squares housed in the stylish and modern Canopy at Hilton London City in Aldgate that tribute its British cuisine to the immigrants who helped put East London on the map. We also enjoyed Vietnamese cuisine at Banh Bao Brothers on the graffiti-slated Leake Street in Waterloo. We let our hair down at the Burlesque Idol show hosted by House of Burlesque at the Hippodrome Casino in London’s Leicester Square and had a few laughs. Flamenco Festival London returned to Sadler’s Wells Theatre in Islington after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. At the first season’s show, we were entertained by immaculately dressed dancers in the powerful and seductive Viva! that challenged the traditional genre boundaries usually dominated by female dancers. The sexy and fierce London-based rapper Stefflon Don and Lagos native Afrobeats giant Wizkid grace our music celebrity pages. Whilst Stefflon has incorporated Afrobeats into her music, both artists made similar decisions to leave their record labels and manage their creative directions in their unique way. As usual, we feature four artists who recently released new singles and four influential films on or coming to the big screen soon. These are accompanied by BFI’s old classic and anime films and two film review screenings we enjoyed attending. In our fashion pages, be amazed and appreciative of established and emerging designers’ collections at the London, New York, Milan and Paris fashion weeks. We celebrate ‘King of Swimwear’ Panos Papadopoulos’ highly anticipated autobiography Panos: My Life, My Odyssey, which details his life and business ethos that directed his swimwear brand in Sweden. We also review hair and make-up artist Jonas Oliver’s fabulous coffee book OMG!, showing his masterpiece creations and the story behind the looks. Whether you’re lounging by the pool, at the beach or in your garden, please take a moment to relax and enjoy our fun-filled Spring-Summer 2022 issue that will have you occupied for hours.
