The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2022 - Issue 31

bitewatches with a dark anodised finish that showcase an exquisitely machined Breitling logo. With a beautiful ice-blue dial, the Top Time references the Triumph Thunderbird 6T from 1951 and a rare, blue-di- alled Breitling Top Time Ref. 815 from the 1970s. It features a black subdued racing-themed calfskin leather strap with a folding buckle and Breitling and Triumph logos that sit subtly at 12 and 6 o’clock. It also has over- sized mushroom pushers that allow easy control of the chronograph’s stop-start and reset functions and a high contrast tachymeter scale that provides legibility of speed readings. The stainless steel timepiece is powered by Breitling Calibre 23, a COSC-certified chronometer, with a self-winding mechanical. It has a unilateral ball bearing, a power reserve of approximately 48 hours and a caseback etched with a detailed design sketch of Triumph’s paral- lel-twin engine. It also features convex sapphire steel and is glare-proofed on both sides, with a 4-hertz oscillating pinion, 1/4th second and Super-LumiNova® luminescent hour markers, hour and minute hands. In addition, Breitling’s Top Time Classic Cars Squad is a distinctive celebration of design and freedom and pays homage to classic sports cars from the 1960s. The Shelby Cobra in stainless steel and blue gets its influ- ence from Le Mans winner Carroll Shelby who imagined a car that combined British chassis design with Ameri- can racing engineering. In the early 1960s, he created the Shelby Cobra, a sports car that ingeniously matched a small, light chassis to a strong, reliable American big block engine. This timepiece features a 40 mm stainless steel case matched to a brown racing-themed leather strap, with a Breitling 41 calibre, self-winding mechanical, brown calfskin leather strap, power reserve of 42 hours, 1/4th second, 30 minutes, non-screw locked, two gaskets crown, cambered sapphire, glare-proofed on both sides crystal, stainless steel folding clasp buckle. Red and light blue details are featured on its blue dial and the Shelby Cobra logo on the dial and caseback. The first-generation Ford Mustang, produced from 1964 to 1969, was compact, affordable and sporty. A favour- ite icon among rock stars and actors, it also featured in some of the era’s most popular movies. The Top Time Ford Mustang, powered by the Breitling Caliber 25, has a 42 mm stainless steel case matched to a brown rac- ing-themed calfskin leather strap, with orange and yellow details on the green dial and the Ford Mustang pony logo on the dial and caseback. Top Time Chevrolet Corvette takes its influence from the second-generation Chevrolet Corvette that was distrib- uted from 1963 to 1967. The ‘Stingray’ took inspiration from a 1959 racing-focused prototype and is still admired by thousands for its slinky low-profile body. Powered by the Breitling Caliber 25, it also features a 42 mm stain- less steel case complemented by a black racing-themed calfskin leather, with orange and yellow details on the red dial and the Chevrolet Corvette logo on the dial and caseback. Finally, the Top Time Deus Limited Edition co-designed with Australian lifestyle brand Deus Ex Machina, a custom motorcycle and surf outfitter, is a nod to Breitling’s original 1960s watch. It appeals to bikers, boarders and backpackers looking for the freedom to explore the world their way, at their own pace. It features a 41 mm stainless steel case with a brown racing-themed calfskin leather strap, yellow and orange details, and a lightning bolt- shaped chronograph hand on top of squircle-shaped chronograph counters. Breitling’s Top Time Triumph and other models are avail- able online and at stores in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North and Central America, the Caribbean, Oceania and the United Kingdom. www.breitling.com/gb-en Images courtesy of Breitling
