The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2022 - Issue 31

bitebeauty T he much-awaited fashion show Coalescence, or- ganised by Imperial College, took the stage on 11 February in the Great Hall. This year, the proceed- ings went to Stop Domestic Abuse, a charity that builds safe shelters for victims of this crime. The fashion show saw a combination of designers, from lingerie and urban to classic and futuristic styles, designed and modelled by the students of Imperial College. It takes a lot of organi- sation and patience to put together a good fashion show with months of preparation for the designers to create their clothing collections and collaboration to bring it all together. There are many things to consider, including the models. Once the designers have picked their models and made the clothing adjustments and final touches, they have to prepare for the catwalk, which is when the actual re- hearsal starts. Models need to learn to walk the runway to the beat of the music and often need to interact on the stage. It takes both time and practice, especially if they are required to walk, dance or act in high heels and bizarre outfits. I admire these models as they dedicate a lot of time to perfect their walk and make the show as professional as possible, considering that most of them are students. It is only understandable that the designers wish the models to look their best. This is when the troupe of make-up artists and hairstylists come together. It takes time to de- cipher the best look to create for the models. The make- up and hairstyles must work well together, be achievable within the given time, and look sensational on the models and the different clothing collections. It’s not always an easy task. Typically, the preparation starts by looking at the clothing collections and determining what each model is wearing. Then, it becomes easier to decide on the make-up de- sign, which is created accordingly to the theme, the mood and vibes of the show. It takes a few face and hair chart drawings before picking the agreed choice which is liked by everyone, which is not easy. There is usually a con- stant change in the style, colours to be used, the hair to go with it, the apparent modifications and adaptations for each design, and each skin tone and hair type.
