T his sequel to the 2017 Thor: Ragnarok sees Korg (Taika Waititi) recount the story of the ‘space viking’ Thor Odinson. “After saving planet Earth for the 500th time, Thor set off on a new journey. He got in shape and went from a dad bod to a god bod.” You may recall that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) put on excessive weight in Avengers: Endgame, but thankfully he returned to his fit physique for Ragnarok and this film. “After all that,” Korg continued, “he reclaimed his title as the one and only Thor!” Well, almost! Upon seeing his hammer, which he lost in the previous film, he calls out “Mjölnir”, but it repels and lands in the hand of his ex-girlfriend, Jane (Natalie Portman). What a surprise! Thor certainly was. After she assumed they hadn’t seen each other in three or four years, he cor- rected her with, “Eight years, seven months and six days, give or take.” The god of thunder tries to hide his feelings, but Brunhilde (Tessa Thompson), whom we met in the previous film, sees he’s still harbouring feelings for Jane. Awkward reunion aside, an enemy is lurking in the abyss of the dark. After killing several other gods, grey skin and gruesome-looking Gorr, the God Butcher (Christian Bale) swears to add Thor to his list. “The only one gods care about is themselves. So this is my vow. All gods will die.” However, it appears Thor isn’t easy to nail down as he thought. “You are not like the other gods I’ve killed,” he complained. Well, you can’t always get what you want, Gorr, and besides, we need Thor. A fantastic scene is when Zeus (Russell Crowe) says he will remove Thor’s disguise, dressed in a hooded gown, with a flick. A gush of wind and Thor’s clothes peels off, leaving him naked, the crowd gasping and the women fainting. Even the two guards behind Zeus almost dropped. “You flicked too hard, dammit!” Thor shouted. We women are not complaining, especially with a unique physique like yours, Thor, and we look forward to captur- ing this moment again at the cinema.
