Such events do not happen accidentally; there has to be a driving force behind an industry-changing celebration, and Savita Kaye is that vibrant force. Savita holds a BA in Engineering and Business Man- agement and an MA in Marketing. She initially worked in advertising and then changed to corporate finance, but after the financial crisis, she dedicated herself to event planning. Starting as a backstage manager in 2012, she quickly excelled and integrat- ed her corporate background of risk, compliance and contingency by challenging the designers. She would ask thought-provoking questions like, “Why do you want to do a fashion show? What return on your investment will you get from doing a show?” The response, as Savita recalled, was often, “I hope to be discovered.” At that moment, she realised there was a gap in the market for emerging brands. “What I find personally frustrating is that mainstream media will always cover the big established brands, but no- body is there for the emerging brands to be seen and heard,” she said.
