bitemodelprofile Actress and Model Profile Laura Mae Bowes T he model and actress Laura Mae Bowes has made appearances in Peaky Blinders, the music videos of singer James Arthur and house music group Good- boys. She also has a Boda Skins fashion campaign shoot under her belt, is preparing to travel with Off The Rails and making her presenter debut at Paris Fashion Week 2022. She admits her biggest inspiration comes from her- self as she channelled all the negativity she experienced and decided she’s going to “make it” and do something meaningful with her life. Born and raised in Yorkshire, Laura had a tough time in school as she was often bullied, yet used this experience as fuel to drive her goals. She is one of the lucky few for whom acting has come naturally or as she describes it “unexpectedly” only last year. The model confessed she enjoys acting and being in front of the camera, and loved performing in school plays, but was too shy to take it any further at the time. As a young girl, her inspiration was Gemma Arterton in the comedy-drama St Trinian’s. “I thought she was the definition of sexy and powerful. She was someone I wanted to be in terms of attitude when I was 14. Anyone that seemed not to care what others thought of them and stayed individual is inspiring to me.” Laura worked with James Arthur on his most recent music video for the song ‘Emily’ taken from his new album. She said being picked to play the part over big names was because of “the friendship that I had with Anthony Bryne (director of Peaky Blinders) that gave me the shot. Antho- ny knew me and what I was capable of and he believed in me to pull it off, which I think we certainly did!” The actress has also worked with Hollywood actor Cillian Murphy but says that she is not phased by big names. However, if the opportunity presented itself, she would love to work with Tom Hardy with a similar plot to The Kray Twins. What inspired Laura to pursue an acting career was to embody different characters. The model confessed, “It might sound crazy, but since I was younger, the power to be someone else excited me, so I found [simulation] games such as The Sims fascinating. The stories behind the characters and how they came to be the person they are have always inspired me to jump into their shoes and try to feel how they would have felt.” Laura is also a tal- ented poetry writer and at the age of 14 she won a po- etry prize and met actor Ralph Fiennes! She admits she hasn't done it in a very long time. “I love that poetry can accurately express your take on life because you can kind of make it your own and there are no right and wrong answers.” When it comes to her dreams and aspirations, Laura re- vealed that a year ago she wrote down her goals for the next 10 years and they have already come true, apart from a house in Bali. She is now planning to write some new ones down allowing her to get recognition in the in- dustry and have roles in movies and walk the red carpet. Giedre Jackyte speaks to actress and model Laura Mae Bowes about her acting career and roles in several productions.
