Samantha Morgan discovers the controversial rapper Doja Cat who’s had to apologise for some of her past behaviours but defend unfounded rumours. bitemusicceleb a Cat F or an artist who has been nominated for eight Gram- mys ahead of next year’s ceremony, Doja Cat doesn’t seem to be enjoying her fame of late. She took to Ins- tagram Live to complain that she felt pressured to do things she doesn’t want to do such as taking pictures. “Like, yes, planning a photoshoot is very fun. Capturing a concept, capturing a visual idea, something like that… I love fashion, I really do.” Instead, she wants to have fun making music that she feels she hasn’t done in the last five years. The rapper also revealed in a recent interview that she’s go- ing to start being more selective with who she works with in the future. “I have been trying to be more careful about who I’m collaborating with,” she told ExtraTV. “Not to say that the people on my album are - they’re incredible. They are the perfect features on my album.” She then added, “It feels like people are just getting on each other’s song for the sake of having them on each other’s songs.” Doja Cat collaborated with Nicki Minaj on the remix of her 2020 track ‘Say So’, featured alongside Megan Thee Stal- lion on Ariana Grande’s remix of ‘34+35’, released ‘Kiss Me More’ with SZA, the lead single of her latest album Plan- et Her and has The Weeknd, Young Thug, JID and Ariana Grande appearing on the album as well. Recently, Minaj said she almost featured on Doja Cat’s ‘Get Into It (Yuh)’ but said she didn’t think she could bring anything to the track and felt there were too many middlemen involved. Incidentally, at the 2020 MTV EMAS held remotely amid the coronavirus pandemic, Doja Cat transformed her slinky disco smash ‘Say So’ into an early 2000s-style nu-metal rager complete with distorted guitar riff performed by a band of goth musicians. She even rocked the look with black hair and nails. However, tweeting after the ceremony, she indi- cated that she was bored with the song, one of her biggest hits, saying, “I’m tired of ‘Say So’ too y’all.” At least she won the Best New category at the EMAs.
