The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2021 - Issue 29

biteglasses L abelled “the French eyewear whizz” by Elle UK and “the king of trendy eyewear” by Jalouse , Parisi- an-born designer Thierry Lasry launched his epony- mous eyewear brand in late 2006. Thanks to his optician father and designer mother, Thierry learned to use this creative environment to elevate the status of sunglasses and redesign them into a fashion accessory that is as essential as a lovely clutch or a pair of stilettos. Growing up in the ‘80s, the young Thierry played with Playmobil and LEGO and watched Japanese cartoons, including the religiously broadcasted Astro Boy and Co- bra on French television. Through these programmes, he developed a passion for colours and geometric shapes. He also became fascinated with the exuberant aesthet- ic and inspirational Claude Montana and Thierry Mugler catwalk shows that electrified the fashion scene. The eyewear designer perceives sunglasses as the su- preme accessory that unites the universe of fashion, beauty and architecture. His sunglasses are entirely handmade with the best craftsmanship techniques and traditional know-how with acetate frames provided by the reputable Italian manufacturer Mazzucchelli. Each piece imagined and assembled is directly inspired by the LEGO Thierry grew up playing, with the flat fronts provid- ing the retro-inspired shapes with a futuristic twist. Most of the frames feature extra layered acetate blocks on the back of the flat fronts, using a process more akin to sculpture than traditional cutting techniques. With clean lines, geometrical shapes, stunning colours, and the signature design of each style, the brand’s name is hidden inside the temples rather than on the outside like most eyewear brands. The Thierry Lasry customer is de- scribed as confident with a distinctive style and sophisti- cated elegance. Interestedly, the letter Y is added to the end of each style name in the SS21 collection, which subsequently is found at the end of the designer’s first and last name and has exaggerated the V and X in Climax, Savvy and Sexy. Celebrities such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, Madonna, Kate Moss, Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Kidman, Usher and Travis Scott have worn his designs. The designer has collaborated with Acne Studios, DC Comics for Colette, Fendi, Koché, Rhude, Local Authority and Barbie. All Thierry Lasry frames are handmade in France or Italy, packaged in a microfibre pouch in a hard case and box, and can be fitted with prescription lenses. The Koché x Thierry Lasry collaboration rendered the Rhevision sunglasses with a choice of black acetate with black, red, yellow or light grey lenses; brown acetate with sol- id brown, grey marble acetate with solid grey, or purple acetate with solid grey lenses. The Rhodeo sunglasses consist of black acetate with black, yellow, light pink or light grey lenses. The Rhude collaboration produced another Rhodeo de- sign of black acetate with the same colour lenses choice. To celebrate the French soccer team Paris Saint-Ger- main's 50th anniversary, Thierry Lasry launched an ex- clusive pair of sunglasses with material from Mazzuc- chelli in PSG colours of red, blue and white. It has two versions: a classic one with solid lenses and a more 'bling-out' one with Swarovski crystals around the rims. With a beautifully crafted frame in abstract colours, the Local Authority x Thierry Lasry Creepers collabora- tive sunglasses will give wearers a sharp look. These sunglasses are available in yellow, blue, brown or red- dish-brown horn and milk acetate with solid green, navy blue, or solid brown lenses. The Isolar in champagne or honey with green lenses and champagne with yellow lenses, and Isolar 2 in champagne with brown lenses from the Enfants Riches Déprimés collaboration provide an enriched, dynamic look. In the SS21 collection, you will discover various geomet- ric sunglasses and radiant colours such as Olympy in a burgundy acetate frame with green gradient lenses; Mer- cy in a black and tortoiseshell acetate frame with yellow gold temple and brown gradient lenses; Unicorny in a translucent blue acetate frame with blue gradient lenses; Sexxxy in a smokey grey acetate frame with yellow gold temple and brown gradient lenses, and Gambly in taupe acetate with brown gradient lenses. Bluemoony is sheer-like in a translucent peach acetate frame with brown gradient lenses or translucent purple acetate with grey gradient lenses. Witchy keeps your look interesting in contrast with its pink pattern and trans- lucent pink acetate, purple pattern and translucent neon yellow acetate or black and yellow horn acetate frame with brown gradient lenses. Darksidy comes alive with black acetate frames with navy blue, light pink or purple lenses or tortoiseshell acetate with light pink or brown lenses. Mastermindy sunglasses has a solid futuristic look in a white or black acetate frame with solid black lenses, translucent burgundy, brown or green acetate frame with solid green lenses, translucent burgundy acetate frame with light pink lenses or translucent brown acetate frame with light blue lenses. Savvvy has a glorious champagne colour frame with dark brown lenses and a blue frame with a reddish-orange rim and a chocolate-like brown lens. Thierry Lasry also designs optical glasses such as Nemesy, Saucy Clear, Meteory, Anomaly, Fishy, Dystopy, and Hormony. Accessories include the Cowboy T-shirt in black, green or navy blue; Local Authority x Thierry Lasry T-shirt in white, and face masks in multi, pink, blue and grey patterns with a pouch.
