The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2021 - Issue 29

bitecars Once the diamonds were positioned accurately and checked over several days, the team performed the actual painting and thoroughly removed each diamond. ‘Graph- ite’ and clear-coat were applied on top of the effect paint ‘Customer Special Red’ to invert the pattern. The complete process involved the paintwork being sanded, smoothed, checked, retouched and then re-sanded and took the paintwork artist over two weeks to complete the task to perfection. “The particular challenge of the painting process was in not damaging the carefully applied pattern,” Dirk said. “This meant that our painting skill in the final phase was the crucial composer in putting the finishing touches to the car, which were necessary for us to meet our standard of absolutely uncompromising and impeccable quality.” The multilayer paint structure integrated the ruby diamonds evenly into an anthracite colour gradient, and repeatedly smoothing out the pattern created an extraordinary depth and brilliance in the colours. “We were conscious right from the start of the sensibilities relating to the customer car and of the particular challenge of implementing both technically a very sophisticated and artistic project,” Jörg explained. “The attention to detail re- quired and the fact that we had to pursue a zero-defect strategy on the final car gave us tremendous respect for the project. Our ethos in the Colour & Trim department within Bugatti Design was and has always been to real- ise the customer’s vision to perfection, which we achieved again in this project.” The highly customised, high-powered and exclusive Divo revived the luxury car manufacturer’s coachbuilding tradi- tion. Powered by Bugatti’s iconic 1,500 PS 8-litre W16 en- gine, it has a top speed of 236 mph. The Divo is limited to 40 units in total, each priced at €5 million net plus options, and produced in the Atelier in Molsheim, France. The first deliveries of the hyper sports car were made in August 2020, and all Divo cars were handed over to their owners within the early months of 2021. www.bugatti.com/divo
