bitetheatre Lisa Ogun’ gets engrossed listening to the three short plays offered by Talawa Theatre and aired by BBC 4 Radio, one each Friday afternoon in May for a three-week run. Running With Lions Images courtesy of Dujonna Gift-Simms Image courtesy of Darren Bell T he three plays season kicked off on 7 May with Running with Lions , whose synopsis is written as ‘A British-Car- ibbean family struggles to come together after the death of their loved one. With each family member dealing with grief in their own way, they experience challenges to faith and their mental health, and examine the things they do not say, as they rediscover the im- portance of love and joy.’ This new play was scripted by Sian Davi- la and directed by Talawa Theatre’s very own Artistic Director, Michael Buffong. The play features a stellar voice cast including Sharon Duncan-Brewster ( Sex Education , Netflix), Don Warrington ( Death in Para- dise , BBC), Sharon D Clarke ( Caroline, or Change , West End), Alfred Enoch ( How to Get Away with Murder, ABC) and Lydia West ( It’s a Sin , Channel 4). Although I was unable to listen to this one at the time of its airing, given the cast listed above, it’s one I’ve added to my calendar to catch up on, as this run of plays is available via the BBC Radio 4 website for a few more months.
