CHRISTIAN SIRIANO bitecatwalk C hristian Siriano is renowned for putting on an out- standing runway show with a collection of fantasy evening gowns and cocktail dresses. The collection reflected the theme from the blockbuster film, Birds of Prey. Margot Robbie, the lead actress of the movie, was responsi- ble for sponsoring Siriano’s catwalk show and influenced the creation of the catwalk set up with items from the actual film set that had been shipped to Spring Studios. Robbie’s crazy eccentric psychiatric disorder character, Harley Quinn, was the most obvious inspiration for the runway show with rainbow-streaked hair and heart-shaped beauty marks. Dark silver outfits with puffed sleeves, separates with leather chokers, and lots of reflective material were on show. It was a remarkable transformation from the bright colours and soft silhouettes of past collections, with more body-skimming propositions like a trio of draped stretch-satin gowns in a luminous shade of rose.And men’s suits and separates were added to the parade of outfits. It was a lengthy show, and some of the outfits would not have been missed.There were a lot of standalone pieces that would have been enough to make this show a much more robust display of the collection. It was like watching a football match of two contrasting halves. But regardless of the duration of the show, we loved the outfits with big hats. He has a sophisticated attitude to his designs and tends to create timeless classics with glamorous sensibility and a distinctively feminine aesthetic. Most of his collections represent all the sophistication of the modern woman today. The stage featured an indoor mini orchid setting in the centre of the venue complemented by soft, moody lighting that helped to bring the audience’s anticipation of what we were going to see from the designer. As the show progressed, there was a real edgy and dark gothic feel from the entrance of the first outfit followed by a natural conservative approach to the rest of the sophisticated collection with beautiful and wearable separates. An amazing dark bottle green dress with side splits stood out for us from this AW20 collection. The inspiration for this collection stems from his admiration for the work of Austrian painter Egon Schiele whose exotic orchids inspired him this season.The silhouettes were flowing and edgy with a palette of vibrant shades like violet, teal, turquoise and fuchsia within the blouses and dresses, with subtle layers.
