bitecatwalk BRAIN&BEAST O ne could think by glancing at Brain & Beast’s current and past collections that you’re blissfully tripping out; however, you’re not. You’re delightfully in the present, and happily gazing at an awesome AW20 collection from one of Spain’s most titillating and entertaining labels. The collection is designed by Angel Vilda, the 'boss man' of the trio team behind the brand. It reflects his consistent love of using riddles, games, graphic art and "hieroglyphics of struc- tural simplicity that respond to complex geometrical equations in which colour and materials form parts of the codes where nothing is random," as his true muse. Cesar Olivar and Ezequiel Carcil help to run this brand’s company. In my opinion, how Vilda layers textural fabrics with bold, re-worked iconic graphic prints and how he styles each ensemble showcases this love of mixing his viewpoint of con- temporary culture with emotion and humour. I honestly adore how he uses androgynous models and plays on the features of each to show that no one should be limited by gender, size or stereotype when it comes to expressing one’s taste or style. Men and women wearing dresses, skirts, lace, leather, rainbow palettes, make-up and more all walked the runway with soul-surging confidence and chutzpah. Everything and anything seems to go hand-in-hand in this beautifully choreographed line-up of haute couture streetwear that again layered mismatched prints, silhouettes and prede- termined styles, i.e. preppy and punk worn together in perfect harmony, with tongue-in-cheek hilarity. What could come across as mismatched and patchwork is ultimately presented as thoroughly thought-out looks. As for the individual pieces of this ‘Oasis’ AW20 collection, I couldn’t get enough of the skirts he showed! Each one had a distinct look, but still familiar shape and cut so that if one were to tear the looks apart and wear them singularly, they’d be showstoppers. (See look #3) https://brainandbeast.com
