bitedrinks The term ‘aromatherapy’ was first coined by French chemist and perfumer Rene-Maurice Gattefossé in 1937. A non-believer in the natural health movement, he was more interested in the proper- ties that essential oils exhibited. In 1910, he burnt his hand badly in his laboratory and treated the wound with pure, undiluted lav- ender oil. It immediately eased the pain and also healed his hand without any signs of infection or scarring. He also discovered that when absorbed, essential oils interact with the body’s chemistry. Using Gattefossé’s methods, essential oils treated many injured soldiers during the Second World War. Since the late ‘70s and ear- ly ‘80s, the interest in natural medicine has boomed and seen the industry grow with new technologies being developed to bring health and wellbeing to the human body and replace harmful chemicals in the home. One such community of wellness started in 1993 when founders D. Gary and Mary Young developed their first organic herb farming and distilla- tion operation. The following year, the husband-and-wife team established Young Living. It developed more farm- land in Utah and Idaho, United States, to cultivate lavender, peppermint, melissa, clary sage, basil, and many other herbs. They then designed and built the largest, most technologically advanced essential oil distillery in North America to fuel the growing demand for top-quality essential oils. In harmony with these efforts, they developed their Seed to Seal ethos to preserve the production process. Through their proprietary Seed to Seal quali- ty commitment, the three guiding principles of Sourcing, Science, and Standards has helped Young Living protect the planet and provide pure, authen- tic products. All Young Living products come from corporate-owned farms, partner farms, and Seed to Seal-certified suppliers. It supports a healthy lifestyle and provides opportunities for over 6 million global members to find a sense of purpose and whole-life wellness by aligning their work with their values and passions. For years, Young Living has been at the forefront of bringing the ancient tradition of essential oils to mod- ern users, introducing millions to a total mind/body wellness they may never have dreamed possible. The oils are primarily extracted through steam distillation and cold pressing, making them more powerful than the botanicals from which they were removed. Wheth- er it is the fragrance from a fresh orange peel, lavender, peppermint, or jasmine, essential oils can inspire a positive emotional state. Citrus Fresh Essential Oil is a relaxing, calming blend rich in the powerful antioxidant d-limonene.
