bitefilmreview A ctor, director, producer and screenwriter, Caio Scot holds two undergraduate degrees in Advertising and Cinema from PUC-Rio. His first short Fairytale (2017) was part of the official line-up of the Miami Independent Film Festival (USA), the SHOTS: International Independent Short Film Festi- val (Slovenia), and the Oaxaca FilmFest (Mexico). His most recent film, After That Party (2019), with screenwrit- ers Lucas Drummond and Mel Carvalho, premiered at the 37th REELING LGBTQ Film Festival in Chicago, USA in September 2019. Since then, the film has been shown at 16 International film festivals and won the Audience Award for Best International Short Film both at the 22nd OUTFlix LGBT Film Festival (Mem- phis/USA) and the 32nd OUT ON FILM LGBTQ+ Film Festival (Atlanta/USA). The film focuses on Leo (Lucas Drummond), who never im- agined he would see his dad kissing another man in the middle of a party until it happened. Now, with the help of Carol, his best friend, he has to find the perfect way to tell his dad that he found out his secret. The short not only looks at the son-father relation- ship but digs even deeper into basic human needs and emotions such as trust, love, acceptance and most importantly, freedom. On the surface, the short can appear light with a twist of comedy; however, it goes more in-depth and might even provoke some of the audience members. The director’s goal was to send a message that “we all should be ourselves, [and] able to open our hearts to our family, friends, and the people we love, so we can live our life, and love whoever we want to love.” He further added that charac- ters in Brazilian movies or soap operas are usually sad and deal- ing with unresolved issues because they may have homophobia. R obin Cloud is a Los Angeles based comedian, writer, and director. Her first narrative short, Out Again, was executive produced by Refin- ery29 as part of their Shatterbox Anthology and pre- miered in March 2017, receiving over 2 million views. In addition, the film received rave reviews and has screened at over 45 film festivals and counting. Her do- cuseries, Passing : A Family in Black & White premiered in July 2019, was executive produced by Topic/First Look Media. The writer and director is a 2017 Kickstarter Creative Fellow, a graduate of Lena Waithe’s Hillman Grad men- tee program, and was recently accepted into the Amer- ican Film Institute’s Directing Workshop for Women class of 2020. Her short film 2 Dollars premiered in the spring of 2020 and showcased issues surrounding non-binary people in a manner of comedy. The lead, actor and former pro snowboarder, Gabrielle Maiden has starred in several films including I Love Dick and Stranger Things in 2017, and Under the Silverlake in 2019. She recently played the lead in It’s Not About Jim- my Keene which premiered at Sundance Film Festival to critical acclaim. 2 Dollars focuses on frustrated artist Syd (Gabrielle Maiden) who works in an unfulfilling job for one of the worst property management firms in the city. She iden- tifies as non-binary, a term used to describe individuals who may experience a gender identity that is neither exclusively woman or man and has to deal with daily slights from her ignorant co-workers, an oblivious boss, and a killer workload. After thinking she has won the office lotto pool, Syd decides to liberate herself by leav- ing the job and pursuing her dreams. AFTER THAT PARTY 2 DOLLARS Director’s Spotlight
