allum Brown, the multi-instrumentalist and pro- ducer behind Yore, is set to release his debut self-titled album via Flat Five Records in early December 2020. The artist known for playing with Mint Field, Josefin Öhrn, and Ulrika Spacek, is well on the way to add this new project to his long list of musical accomplishments. He recently shared new track ‘Sally Out’ featuring Mellah and Nuha Ruby Ra which had everything thrown at until it resulted in unintentional shoegaze and dub. Of his new track, Yore said, “I wanted to make a track that was free to flow and meander without having to follow a traditional song structure. I added multiple layers of instrumentation that culminated in a dense and expansive palette, touching on the ‘wall of sound’ aesthetic. Liam (Mellah) recorded his part first; pro- cessing his vocals with delays and intricate chops. Then, Nuha (my housemate) wrote a perfect coun- terpart for the outro, the final piece of the puzzle!” Living together in an art space known as Vicious Col- lective in Hackney Wick, Callum worked with visual artist Andrew Raynor for the edited video. The collab- oration aspect of the album comes through on ‘Sally Out’ as his closeness with Mellah and Nuha make for a fun and effortless, filmed jam session between friends. Yore also worked with Black Gold Buffalo, Rakel Leifs- dottir of DreamWife, Katie Drew of White Flowers, Rusaika, and Milan Monk of Haha Sounds Collective on the album. Yore is a celebration of indie collaboration akin to Broken Social Scene, the ‘cut and paste’ aesthetic of Unkle and King Krule as well as the dream-like nostal- gia of Deerhunter and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. It was created over several months in Hackney’sWilton Way Studios, with the help of Ulrika Spacek’s Syd Kemp (Thurston Moore, Vanishing Twin, Spiritualised) who co-produced and recorded the 10-track album.
