The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2020 - Issue 27
Looking back to 2000 when the iconic Jungle Print Dress stormed the runway and was made famous by J-Lo at the 42nd Grammy Awards, Jada Brookes celebrates with Versace as they reprise the print in garments and a timepiece. How- ever, it was at the 42nd Grammy Awards in 2000 when Jennifer Lopez wore the unique runway design that it garnered international attention. Millions of people reportedly took to the internet to see Jennifer in the legendary dress, making it one of the most popular searches for Google at the time. However, images of the star and the red-carpet look could not be found. Thanks to the excitement it created, this inspired the Google team to create Google Images. “It was amazing!” Donatella Versace said. “The world had the same reaction: jaw-dropping. Today, we live in a techno- logical world, but back then, one event prompted the creation of a new tool that now has become part of our lives.” Most recently, J-Lo wore a matching palm print Versace trousers, shirt, and handbag to a brunch date with her fiancé Alex Rodriguez. For Spring/Summer 2020, Versace celebrates its 20th anniversary by reprising the Jungle Print on the runway in tropical green and fire or- ange-pink palettes. In the original print, the palm trees are juxtaposed with different treatments and fabrications, while the motif is depicted on metal mesh, embellished with crystals or complemented with tie- dye. Shirts adorned with jungle details are layered under corset bodies with graphic heart-shaped, heritage necklines. With the pattern introduced on Squalo sneakers and beaded as a three-dimensional décor on Virtus handbags, the rest of the collection sees volume, layering, and intricate décolletage cuts redefined the icon- ic black Versace dress. Taking its inspiration from Atelier creations, sharp geometric lines add character to a series of opening looks in black. Form-fitting silhouettes are paired with gold-tone hard- ware and delicate lace-up sandals embellished with leather leaf accents. Images courtesy of Grove Communications
