The late John Singleton, best known for directing Boyz n the Hood received a special John Singleton In-Memoriam honour presented by longtime friends and associates Craig Brewer, writer and director of Memphis along with the late di- rector, and Rob Smith, Associate Producer of Dolemite Is My Name. His daughter Justice Singleton was on hand to accept the award, given with love from the Guild whose members worked closely with Singleton on numerous projects. The young writer and director, Singleton’s oldest daughter, recalled how she would always see her father whose other directorship included Poetic Justice, Shaft, Baby Boy, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and Four Brothers in a hair and make-up trailer and never his own. She said it was there he would have his most truthful questions not just about the character of the story but about life.
