Along the journey, Markle consults various professionals for advice and direction, among them a therapist, a spiritual advisor and a spooning expert. The documentary not only explores the world of female interviewers but also Markle’s personality and leads him to try different things. He goes to a sex club, hires a professional cuddler, and even goes to a workshop on ‘the art of receiving’ alongside a group of women. Sometimes grotesque, but always real, he invites us into his world and bares his true heart’s desires and quite literally gets naked in front of an audience in one of the scenes at the sex club. He openly shares his thoughts via his narration about these activities and the strange all-baring moments that give the documentary a unique voice. What makes the rom-com documentary interesting and ap- pealing to the audience is the truthfulness, authenticity and ‘bare it all’ attitude. According to the filmmaker, it is so much easier to hide away from your true feelings and bury the pain after the break-up or any other heart-hurting experiences. However, true confidence lays in allowing yourself to be vul- nerable and not constrained to the norms of society. Markle explained that loneliness can be a very painful experi- ence for many of us as today’s society and social media world showcases our best side - like a showreel of the best moments of our lives - where all the imperfections and sadness are ruthlessly eliminated. One could argue that these moments are better left for private conversations, but if one knows that he or she is not alone, it might be easier to transform that feeling into creative energy just as the filmmaker has done with this documentary. Shoot to Marry is one chapter in Markle’s desperate pursuit in finding a wife; of course, not a desperate housewife, but rather a perfect match, an answer to several men’s problems. The documentary showcases the inner conflict, struggle, and truthfulness of what it takes to get over a break-up; the prob- lems people face in pursuit of relationship and a journey to self-discovery in unique and engaging premises.
