To end his speech, Scorsese added, “While the art cannot survive without business, I have to say in the end that busi- ness is certainly not gonna survive without people who have something to say. And you see the examples tonight. Every individual, every filmmaker amounts to more than a number of awards they won or amount of money these pic- tures make and every individual viewer amounts to more, much more than a data that’s been collected of them.” Additional guests at the awards included festival represent- atives Harold Matzner who is Festival Chairman and Artis- tic Director Lili Rodriguez; film producers Albert Berger, David Permut, and Jane Rosenthal; former US Senator Bar- bara Boxer; comedian Bo Burnham; television writer James Duff; actors Mike Hatton, Phillip Keene, and Udo Kier; film director Kasi Lemmons; screenwriter Charles Randolph; and former baseball player Alex Rodriguez. Once again the Palm Springs Film Award did not disap- point and created historic-making moments on stage and the red carpet respectfully. No one serves awards like Palm Springs Film Festival does. It was mesmerising to watch his- tory in the making with people whose passion for art, and especially moving pictures set millions of people’s hearts around the world on fire every single day and helps them to learn, laugh and become better versions of themselves. Moments like these are the true reminders that arts and passion for life are very important, or, we should rather say, vital to our human existence. So let’s stop for a moment and appreciate everyone who is part of such a beautiful, breath- taking industry and let’s allow ourselves time to watch all of the movies that have been nominated this year. www.psfilmfest.org Jamie Foxx
