Cristina Lloyd admires the contemporary styles of accessories brand Marge Sherwood which takes its name from the stylist character in The Talented Mr. Ripley. bite accessories S ometimes taking a name from a character of a film for your brand can do wonders for your business. In this case, the name Marge Sherwood derives from Gwyneth Paltrow’s graceful and so- phisticated character in The Talented Mr. Ripley. The Ko- rean-based accessories brand was founded by designer duo Sungeun Um and Soonyoung Kim whose creation of handbags have a hint of heritage as well as a contem- porary mood thanks to their classic shapes and colour palette. Sungeun Um and Soonyoung Kim have always been fashion-conscious from a young age. For instance, when speaking to Felicity Carter for Forbes, one of them re- vealed they saw a pair of vintage denim jeans in a maga- zine when they were 13 and fell in love with it. “I couldn’t find any similar jeans to the ones I saw so I made my own pair by cutting and rubbing my jeans with sandpaper. When my friend saw them, they all asked me for fashion advice from then on.” It was from their interest in fashion magazines and lux- ury catwalk shows, but not being able to afford the ex- pensive prices of their favourite brands, that they started Marge Sherwood to make luxurious and elegant bags at affordable prices. The duo says their accessories line which is inspired by contemporary art, especially mod- ern dance, is aimed at women who are passionate about style and the fashion industry but prefer wearable and practical accessories. The VAVA Classic bag was the first piece they designed and represents the brand’s identity well by mixing both modern and vintage moods with a variety of colours. The key feature of the brand is that women can carry Marge Sherwood bags in various ways with simple changes. They also run Nonseason, a casual line inspired by the freewill spirits of street culture for all seasons, in which they intend to collaborate with various artists and intro- duce different designs and materials. Marge Sherwood has an extensive range of bags with amazing names like Breeze Handle, More Brick, Pump Handle, and Grandma. Available in both small and me- dium in some styles, these cute bags can be carried on your shoulder, go across your body like a crossbody, or a n d Sop his G ra Marge S
