The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2020 - Issue 27
bite fashion Since her initial collection of dresses in silk, wool, and or- ganza, Victoria has developed a distinctive and modern language of clothing with a bold, intuitive and refined ward- robe of apparel and accessories that is now stocked in over 400 stores in over 50 countries worldwide. Her increasing success is thanks to the designer adapting her own personal style to the needs and desires of the international women who swear by the label’s luxurious and flattering garments. She is also her own brand’s muse, often dressed in her own designs, which could be seen as a ‘walking advertisement’, but speaks volumes wherever she goes. In September 2011, the designer launched Victoria, Victoria Beckham, a com- panion line to her main ready-to-wear collection at New York Fashion Week. A range of upbeat dresses showing softer silhouettes with whimsical details and fun, flirty prints, the idea was envisaged when she was pregnant with her daughter, Harper. In 2013, Victoria launched her website which offers both e-commerce and interactive content that provides a more intimate view of her design approach and working process- es. The following year she opened her first store at 36 Dover Street in London, a three-storey Mayfair space designed by multi-award-winning London-based architect Farshid Moussavi. In that same year, she won Designer Brand of the Year for the second time at the 2014 British Fashion Awards, previously winning the award in 2011. After her Spring 2009 collection, the Fall 2009 Ready-to- Wear saw timeless silhouettes that consisted of a comfort- able-fitting sheath that made a reappearance, this time in a soft grey cashmere with small cap sleeves, short day dresses in black stretch wool felt, above-the-knee cocktail dresses in gold tinsel bouclé, and gowns in crepe or matte sequins with elegant trains. There was also a one-shoulder floor- length black gown with chenille and metallic details and a long-sleeved red marocain with a grosgrain belt. Victoria pushed herself further by playing with new sil- houettes, textures, and print for her Spring 2010 RTW col- lection. The looks included two double-crepe dresses with panelled shoulders and wide skirts, streamlined minidress- es with peplums flaring from waist to hips, and a strapless cocktail dress. As with her previous collections, the high- lights of the show were the evening dresses whose length and width with contrasting bands of fabric at the waist en- hanced their slim fit.
