Going Back to the Classics The Golden Age of Hollywood is the inspiration behind Annie Haak’s AW19 Classical and Beehive collections which has Cristina Lloyd admiring her jewellery pieces. bite jewellery A tragedy can be devastating enough but a near tragedy, although not as traumatic, can still leave you affect- ed in some way, pondering on what could have been. A former children’s painter and handmade card designer, Annie Haak de- cided to make her dream of becoming a jewel- lery designer a reality by firstly working for a friend at her local jewellery in 2009. This de- sire was further enhanced when her husband Johnie was critically injured in a motorcycle accident in Bali. Annie believed that a guardian angel was watching over her husband and prevented the accident from being much worse than it could have been. Thus her signature ‘My Guardian Angel’ charm was created. On the same trip, a chance encounter with a taxi driver became the turning point in Annie Haak Designs as he introduced the would-be designer to a local silversmith who created life into her designs. Speaking about her collections, she said, “Each of my designs carries significant meaning to me.” “They symbolise love, strength, protection, and wellbeing; the ‘My Guardian Angel’ charm was born in response to Johnie’s accident, 15 well-being mottos feature throughout every collection engraved onto silver charms, and the three hearts that make up my logo repre- sent each of my three children: Anoushka (Nu), Jochen, and Naomi (Mimi)” The wonderful colours coupled with spirituality are reflected in her unique pieces through beautiful gems, semi-precious stones, and glittering Swarovski crystals.
