A rt seems to run through Alison Flanders’ bloodline. Her father was a professional Water Colour Artist and Architectural Draughtsman, while her mother, being inspired by her father, took up bookbinding and started her own business at the age of 60. Alison, herself, went to Art College and graduated with a degree in Design. “The foundation course introduced me to many of the materials used by makers. I loved metal as soon as I was able to get my hands on it.” She describes metal as an intriguing material to work with. “I love its strength and enduring qualities, which, together with its paradoxical malleability, presents me with endlessly absorbing challenges. I am fascinated by the transforming nature of jewellery when worn, and my pieces are designed and made to complement and enhance the body.” This love of the material has enabled her to gather her design references from many sources but she is par- ticularly drawn to historical buildings and old stonework. bite jewellery S
