T here is nothing more romantic and relaxing than floating along the River Thames during the day or under the stars while dining in prestigious surroundings and watching the world of London go by. Whilst this wasn’t a romantic occasion, it was certainly a memorable experience that can be shared with friends and family, or even with a romantic partner. Bateaux London’s Glass Room Restaurant is entirely enclosed in glass and offers magnificent views of the city while you savour their award-winning cuisine. Located at Embankment Pier we waited in an elegantly designed lounge on a mild early evening before board- ing the floating restaurant that would take us past iconic landmarks such as the London Eye, Houses of Parliament, Tower of London, and the towering high- rise buildings of Canary Wharf. With the makings of a luxury hotel lobby, the lounge was filled with sump- tuous dark blue and red banquette seats, small round tables, high chairs and decor balls hanging in the centre from the ceiling. When you actually enter Glass Room, the first thing you’ll notice is how luxurious the restaurant is.You’ll pass the bar which has a rich polished wooden surface and navy panel with a backdrop of the same blue hue enveloping the cabinet displaying an array of bottles and glasses. Given a table number, we were escorted to our designated place and seated. Our server, Nabil, introduced himself and explained the criteria of the evening as well as welcoming us with a complimen- tary drink. The colour schemes of brown, blue and maroon con- tinued into the dining area with particular sections and booths outlined with wooden panel walls decorated with a variety of pictures, maroon banquettes, and cloth-covered square tables. In the main dining room, the flood of light from the glass ceiling and walls pre- sented a large area with several tables accompanied by maroon or blue fabric chairs.We were seated in the centre with a backdrop of maroon banquette and blue chairs on the other side.
