The Bite Magazine - Autumn/Winter 2019 - Issue 26

bite catwalk G roenlandia by Zombies blares from the speakers as the models begin to showcase this season’s youthful and effervescent AW19 womenswear collection from Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada. Pop Art and the unmistakable style of the ’70s is referenced heavily with vibrant prints and long flared trousers as the designer plays with exaggerated forms of confectionery in the style of Andy Warhol’s artwork. With the use of fabrics, Ruiz de la Prada has ensured each garment looks just as though it were plucked from a sweet shop, which is complemented by oversized bows that quite literally tie the outfits together. To top it off, incredibly tall pairs of stripy platforms and vibrant bags add the finishing touches to her collection. Every outfit springs from a comic book, with cartoon splats and eggs making up the main body of individual designs. The designer takes on the role of a cartoonist for this season, drawing up endless patterns and prints to pair with her bold use of bright pinks, yellows, and reds. The collection continues to play with 3D effects by using fabric flowers to encompass the entire body of a jumper and skirt ensemble. Who said the use of florals must remain in spring? The collection offers a variety of conceptual outfits along with more wearable pieces, such as soft jumpers with large fluffy hearts in their centres. One can only imagine that said jumpers will be filling our autumnal wardrobes before we know it. The models wore glittery red hearts over their mouths as if to say that the collection has a strong voice and happy emotion of its own, with no need for words. www.agatharuizdelaprada.com
