put on a new groove on which he’d been working. “It was futuristic and so, so good,” she wrote on a since-deleted Facebook post. “Last night I hear Janelle Monae’s new song. As soon as the synth came in, I went, ‘Oh sh*t! That’s it!’ He gave that to her.” Janelle confirmed this in an interview with BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac, saying: “Prince actually was working on the album with me before he passed on to another frequency, and helped me come up with sounds. I really miss him; it’s hard for me to talk about him.” She also echoed those sentiments in a feature for The Guardian in which she said she and Prince had been “collecting sounds” for Dirty Computer before he died. She honours his memory in the video for ‘Make Me Feel’ with some Prince moves. Not just a pretty face or a great singer, Janelle added acting to her resume playing the voice of Dr. Monae in Rio 2 ; Teresa in Moonlight ; Mary Jackson in Hidden Figures ; Alice in Electric Dreams ; GI Julie in Welcome to Marwen and the voice of Mandy in UglyDolls . We will be seeing her on our screens again soon in Harriet , playing the part of Marie; The Lady and the Tramp , playing the voice of Meg; Untitled Bush & Renz Project , playing the part of Veronica; and The Glorias , playing Dorthy Pitman Hughes. www.jmonae.com bite music
