bite catwalk T aking the rich vibrant colours of African prints, creative designer Alfa Cante of Fashion Cante showcased his collection at African FashionWeek London 2019 for the first time. Consisting of sweetheart, plunge and round-necked dresses, and a nicely decorated dashiki, among other designs, the collection was full of sharp colours and details. As the models made their way down the catwalk, three musicians with different types of drum complimented the show with music. An envelope of colours met the eye with hues of yellow, blue, green, orange and rich velvet purple and maroon with accents of gold. Jewellery worn on the ears and around the neck complimented the garments while abstracts of geometric symbols in red, yellow and white on the dashiki stood out from the black contrast. Puffed sleeves on one of the garments with a short, layered hem in black and yellow were accompanied by a yellow printed train that the model gracefully held as she came down the catwalk. G litter was certainly the signature statement of this eveningwear collection as the dresses, and two-piece combinations shimmered and shone elegantly down the catwalk. In a two-tone shade of black with choices of pink, red, and yellow, each piece was sexy and sensational. One of these pieces, a black satin top and short set with a glittery train trailing behind the model, would stop conversations dead in their tracks and turn heads as the wearer entered the room. Made to stand out in the crowd, the design of these two-toned combinations never grew tired as each one was accompanied by a different style. At one stage during the show, the pattern on the skirt deviated slightly with stripes, and then developed into a full-length dress, still keeping its glamorous effect. The first was a lovely silver gown followed by an amazing crop top in pink and a two-toned pink and yellow long skirt.
