Images courtesy of Rizzoli New York bite book review DIOR Vivier by Jada Brookes is fascinated by the book Dior by Roger Vivier which references the extraordinary collaboration between pioneer haute couture designer Christian Dior and iconic shoe maker Roger Vivier. C hristian Dior and Roger Vivier were two designers whose aesthetics were in perfect harmony. In the introduction en- titled ‘Haute Couture Shoes’, Elizabeth Semmelhack, author and senior curator at the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto, Canada describes this as “invisible in the way the curve of a carefully con- structed shoulder is echoed by the sensuous curve of a heel: in the exquisite tension between crisp architecture and lavish ornamen- tation that would define the work of both men.” Dior’s respect for Vivier was further sealed when he placed Vivier’s name alongside his on the label of Dior footwear.
